Placing your smoke alarm correctly

Place at least 1 smoke alarm every floor

Find a central spot on the ceiling with no obstacles nearby

Avoid installing the alarm near moist or steamy places

...or right next to windows

Avoid installing right next to the ventilation ducts

Avoid installing the alarm in the angle of a pitched ceiling

The best location for the alarm is the ceiling. 

If this is not possible and you have to place the alarm on the wall, it should be placed 15-30 cm down from the ceiling. 
Do not place the alarm on the top of the shelf or lower on the wall.

Place the alarm on the ceiling, at least 50cm from the walls

Finnish authorities advice to place one alarm per 60m2.

In a 60,5m2 or 120 m2 flat, this would already mean two smoke alarms!
